More About TFS Services
TFS provides the following services for children and caregivers:
Play Therapy
Many times children do not have the vocabulary or ability to put into words what they are feeling. Although adults can benefit from talking with a therapist, children have a hard time expressing their thoughts with language, but find it easier to communicate through various types of play. Our clinical professionals work individually with children through play therapy and help children learn healthier emotional and social behaviors.
Support and Education for Caregivers
A child’s most important resource for healing is their caretaker. CCFI therapists partner with parents and provide education on ways children can begin the process of healing from abuse and neglect, according to each child’s needs. Staff listens to a caretaker’s progress or frustrations and offers compassionate support and advice.
Child Parent Relationship Therapy
Our staff spends time coaching foster and adoptive parents on new ways to interact with their children using therapeutic techniques to play and relate with their kids. This helps to reduce the communication gap between child and parents, and helps parents learn how to provide a nurturing and healing atmosphere for children at home so they can continue the healing process.
Caregiver Support Group
We facilitate a monthly support group for foster and adoptive parents who are currently involved or have been involved in our Trauma Focused Services.
Music and Movement Class for Children
Children attend this monthly therapuetic Music and Movement class while their caregivers attend the Caregiver Support Group.
