Extended Families Short-Term Care Extended Families is specifically designed to provide short-term emergency foster care for children 0-18 years old. This service is for families who are in crisis and do not have a safe place for their children to stay. Some examples of children who qualify for this service are those who are abandoned or abused, have a parent in the hospital or jail, whose family is having extreme financial problems, whose family is homeless, or whose parents are in need of respite care. Children are placed with Extended Families volunteers from the community. The average stay is 3-7 days, and in some cases, up to one month. |
