Supervised Visitation          & Exchanges

Children's Play Session /Intakes
For families needing visitation services, intakes are conducted so that staff can observe a child's behavior and developmental level. These sessions also allow a child to develop familiarity with the play areas where supervised visitations and exchanges take place. A play therapy format is used for young children. Older children have the choice of playing games or talking through their concerns during the intake session.

Children are never questioned about their loyalty to either parent and the staff does not imply that children have decision-making power in adult matters. The child intake is an informal and relaxed session for the Family Services Coordinator and the child to get acquainted. This service is priced on a sliding scale.

Supervised Visitation
Many children do not have the opportunity to have healthy and consistent relationships with their parents due to long time lapses in contact or safety issues. Even when issues of domestic violence, abuse and neglect, or substance abuse are concerns, secure relationships can be established through parent coaching and monitoring, and parent-child interaction.

Supervised visitations reduce stress for kids and provide an opportunity for more positive parent-child interaction. DVA provides supervision onsite and staff is present during all visitations. Interactions between parents and children are documented in the confidential family case file. Most visitations are available on the weekend and may occur weekly or every other week. This service is priced on a sliding scale.

Supervised Exchanges
If parents are unable to have face-to-face contact without getting into conflict, supervised exchanges may be an option. With professional monitoring at a neutral location, a child's trauma is reduced and parents are less apt to engage in destructive or harmful behaviors in front of the kids.

Supervised exchanges reduce contact between parents and allow a child's transition between homes to be made in a conflict-free atmosphere. Exchanges are scheduled throughout the week and on weekends, subject to court requirements and staff availability. Exchanges cost $5.00 per parent.
