Counseling, Mediation &

 Arbitration

Counseling
DVA offers adults and children short-term, solution-focused counseling. The counseling addresses issues directly related to minimizing the effects of parental conflict on children. If longer-term counseling is needed, referrals will be made to other community resources. This service is generally limited to six sessions and is priced on a sliding scale.

Mediation
In mediation a neutral professional assists family members discuss and resolve issues. Parents use the communication and business-partnering skills learned in the "Children in the Middle" parent education group series in order to develop unique parenting plans that meet the needs of the children. In mediation, parents have the decision-making power. This service is priced on a sliding scale.

Arbitration
In arbitration, parents have the opportunity to express their concerns or wishes about their children. Each parent will be able to discuss with the neutral professional what is important to him or her. Similar to court, the decision-making power for the family is turned over to a third party. The arbitrator will formulate a parenting plan for the family that is based on a child's best interest, and then produce a written contract for the parents. This service is priced on a sliding scale.
