Healing Child Abuse & Neglect
We believe every boy and girl should grow up safe, nurtured and loved. However, experiences of abuse and neglect have devastating, long-term effects on children. Our services help children begin the healing process and increase their potential to lead healthy, productive lives.
Every year nearly 1 million children are confirmed victims of abuse or neglect in the United States. Studies show traumatic experiences can have devastating long-term effects. Abuse and neglect severely alter a child’s physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development.
Why is Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Needed in Norman, Oklahoma?
Oklahoma continues to stay in the top 10 to 15 percent of U.S. states in number of confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect. The Center for Children and Families has worked for 40 years toward prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect.
How Does CCFI Heal Child Abuse and Neglect?
In 2007, our staff received a year of training in the top trauma treatment currently available. We received a grant to fund a program with Dr. Bruce D. Perry and the Child Trauma Academy. Dr. Perry is internationally acclaimed for his research in neuroscience and child development. CCFI staff trained through levels I and II of his therapeutic model of treatment and implemented his theories into our work with children. Treatment involves play therapy, and child-parent relationship theory.
